DANCE FOR PARKINSON'S
Eastbourne Dance Space are proud to offer dance and movement to music classes for people living with Parkinson's disease and their partners/carers.
These specially tailored dance classes draw on many influences, from ballet, tap, jazz and tango (to name but a few!). The emphasis is on enjoyment of dance whilst learning new steps, improving fitness, motor skill and balance, and all the other wonderful benefits to physical and mental wellbeing that dance offers. You don’t have to have danced before and there is the option to stay seated if that suits you better on the day. ALL are welcome and classes are fun! |
Classes generally start with seated dance, focusing on arms, torso, articulation of the hands and feet, then move to supported standing behind the chairs, then some sequences moving across the floor for those who feel able. A wide variety of music will be used, and there will always be translations of the movements available so that everyone can join in, whether they feel able to stand or wish to stay seated. All movements, whether small or big, are valid and valued.
The classes are run by Claire T, a qualified dance teacher with lots of experience teaching adults and children of all ages and abilities. Claire T has also had further specialist training (delivered by tutors from the Mark Morris Dance Group and English National Ballet via People Dancing) in teaching dance classes for people with Parkinson's disease. Dance for Parkinson's classes are also available on Zoom, so that you can dance from the comfort of your own home. Please get in touch for further details.
